Leadership and Socialization – Nature Versus Nurture

Socialization means learning norms, culture, behavior and more through social environment. Socialization skills are acquired during childhood and continue to develop throughout adulthood and the rest of a person’s life. Different cultures have social norms that contribute to learning one’s social skills. Peers and the individual’s community can also influence socialization.

Socialization has a huge impact on a person’s self-identity and affects how they perform, whether in corporate America or in a school setting. Too many managers overlook the importance of socialization and how it will affect their employees. This should be accounted for in the business plan. Both business managers and teachers should be familiar with socialization and how it affects leadership. Socialization helps define who they are, what they become, and how they see themselves. Socialization and other behaviors that are learned by one’s surroundings are examples of nurture. This is where a person’s personality, behavior, social skills, etc. are learned from the environment in which he is surrounded. Nature is also a factor that influences a person’s personality. Nature is the part of a person that is influenced by their genetic makeup. Everyone comes with natural innate instincts and personality traits.

Parents play a major role in a child’s personality development. To start things off, because the child has part of each parent’s genes from their child’s child. A person’s genes come from their parents. Parents strongly influence how a child is raised as a child and throughout childhood. They are their main source of survival and they are always around. A child learns mostly from their parents. They imitate the actions and speech of their parents and pattern themselves after them.

Later in life, children are greatly influenced by their peers. Once a child goes to school he can interact with other children growing up in different environments. Children experience different cultures and new personalities when they go to school and meet new people. At this point, peer acceptance becomes a large part of a child’s self-esteem, and they are strongly influenced by their peers and friends, perhaps more than their parents now. Teachers also influence a person during the school years.

Those with high self-esteem and/or leadership skills are less likely to be influenced by peers. Their surroundings will still influence them but not as much as trying to blend in with those they surround themselves with. People with leadership skills will take their own path and create their own destiny, guiding those who follow in their footsteps. Leaders can have a powerful influence on the nature of other people and how they are affected by their environment.

Those who have many leadership skills and those who need a leader to follow influence each other and create a kind of cycle. Leaders guide others, but to be a leader they also need their support. In a company with many leaders who rely on them or who thrive from smaller companies that use their company.

Leadership is not just about taking control and being able to guide people but also about being able to relate to people. Nature can be a big factor in leadership traits. Their genes and natural traits can be part of their strong and commanding personality and it can also be a part of how a person relates to others and if they truly care for them. Also upbringing can be an influence. Life experiences can strengthen a person so that they learn to be a strong person who wants to stand up for their beliefs and opinions and guide others to do the same. People need to understand themselves before trying to understand others. A leader must control his emotions. Once they can control themselves they can more effectively guide others and become a leader.

Leaders, like everyone else, experience normal human emotions like fear and doubt. The difference is that a leader does not let these feelings overcome him. Leaders will not be guided by these negative emotions and refuse to let them control them. They are in control and have to lead others. However, because they are human and feel like others they can still relate to others. A leader must be motivated enough to overcome their negative or pessimistic feelings. It is okay for one to face and feel negative emotions but a leader cannot be overcome by them. Motivation helps one go through difficult times and uses them to strengthen them.

The third characteristic is motivation. A leader is someone who can be self-motivated and see what needs to be done and what action needs to be taken without the help of others. Motivation is about taking initiative. People can lead by example and encourage others. The second characteristic is the ability to relate to others. A person who relates to others is actively willing to listen and empathize with others and genuinely cares about them and what is happening in their lives.

Empathy is being able to feel for others as they are feeling and experiencing what they are going through. When someone is an empath they try to see things the way the person sees them so they can feel for them. They try to feel for them instead of feeling bad for them as they empathize.

Active listening is an important skill when empathizing or empathizing. In pain one needs someone not just to listen, but to actively listen and pay attention. If the listener leaves the area or just pretends to listen, the speaker can tell and this can make the problem worse. They may not feel important or feel that no one cares. Sometimes people in pain or trouble just need someone to listen while they talk. An active listener does not need to give their input or respond verbally. Responding through facial expressions and body language is most effective. If someone is interested, it will usually show through their responses and reactions.

Social skills are the culmination of all other traits in this category. Many social skills need to be learned, including being empathetic and relating to others. Being an active listener and knowing when is the right time to respond and when to just listen can be difficult. For many, it takes time to even notice others and have concern for them in particular. It’s not that they are selfish, but some don’t pay that much attention to their surroundings. Many have to acquire this skill.

On the other hand, some people are naturally good at empathy and have a sincere interest in those around them. They are always aware of others and have a genuine concern for them and their well-being. These people who have that natural ability help show others the importance of being selfless and caring for others. They become leaders in their own way through their natural abilities and genetic traits.

Leaders have many traits that are either learned or inherited. It all depends on the individual and their natural born personality. Some have skills that come naturally and some have to be learned. Others have partial social skills and others need to learn. There are many different ways to come up with what one’s personality traits and leadership skills show.

Some important traits of leadership are self-control as well as self-discipline, a positive attitude and open mind, willingness to go beyond the call of duty, willingness to take responsibility and accept the consequences of their actions, a likeable personality and character. , selflessness, humility and not only performing leadership duties for self-image and wealth, and so on.

Some are born with these positive traits. Others are born with some and others are learned by parents who were born with positive traits and leadership skills. Some don’t learn until school years. And then there are those who don’t learn until adulthood when they have to. Some people are born leaders with leadership traits, but anyone willing to try can learn leadership skills. It helps if a person is naturally blessed with at least a few leadership traits, but one can still be nurtured whether or not one has leadership skills.

If one is motivated by nature, they can acquire leadership skills through nurture. Motivational skills can help individuals learn any other skill. Upbringing plays a large role in a person’s abilities and personality, but one’s desire to learn and motivation can only get a person so far.
