What’s Really Keeping You From Success?

“It’s beautiful!” My family squealed as I unveiled the oil painting I had done for my grandmother’s Christmas present. Standard questions arise such as “How long did it take you to do this?” and “What was your inspiration?” But what really caught my attention was the comment from every single person in the room… “I could never do something like that.”

It is very interesting how our beliefs and negative thoughts control our lives. Although you may not realize it, the number one factor that determines whether you will succeed at something is if you believe you can.

Take the example of my family in the story above. Each of them was sure they could never draw anything close to what I did but none of them ever tried. Not only that, because they don’t think they will be able to do it, they won’t even try to do it.

Have you ever stopped to consider how much your potential is stunted by negative thinking? Let’s take money for example. I’m sure you want to make more money…but why aren’t you?

Just notice all the thoughts that go through your mind; All the reasons you come up with for why you aren’t earning more than you should. I want you to be aware that each of these thoughts is just a limiting belief created and fed by negative thoughts. Show me what I mean.

Let’s say one of your reasons for not making more money is “I don’t know how.” It may be true that, right now, you don’t know how to start your own business or invest…but who says you can’t learn?

Maybe one of your reasons is, “I don’t have an education.” Walt Disney, Sean Connery, George Carlin, Andrew Carnegie, Simon Cowell, Lucille Ball and John D. Plenty of people, including Rockefeller, didn’t finish high school, and I think you’d agree that they did pretty well for themselves.

What I want to convey to you is that there is nothing you cannot be, do or have, including being more prosperous. The only thing standing in your way are all the negative thoughts and your limiting beliefs that tell you it can’t be done.

So how can you let go of these negative thoughts? There are several methods you can try. One is confirmation. An affirmation is a positive statement uttered in the present tense. For example, “I double my income every month.” Repetition of such an affirmation can begin to introduce a new thought pattern into your mind so that it replaces old, negative thoughts.

Another technique is hypnosis. You may want to do a search for hypnotherapists in your area and see if one can help you.

Finally, there are energy psychology techniques such as the Emotional Freedom Technique. They tend to be very quick and effective, but sometimes it can be difficult to get good results on your own. If you are new to EFT, it may be a good idea to find a knowledgeable practitioner.
