When I decided to self-publish it was for many of the same reasons I wrote about here: I had some expertise and a lot of authority on this very niche subject, known to only a few thousand. In promoting my book I became an authority on a new field of study, however small. The book has been on the market, being revised year after year. It eventually went through two editions and four printings, making a profit from the first printing. I was invited to teach at holistic centers, events and conferences.
