Undead and Unwelcome by Mary Janice Davidson Book Review

Betsy Taylor does it again in the eighth installment of Mary Janice Davidson’s Undead series, Undead and Unwelcome. No longer single (but still in her thirties), Betsy takes on all the responsibilities of being Queen of the Vampires and Sinclair’s wife. But as if these were not enough, Betsy has to deal with the death of her best friend; Getting Antonia’s body back to her pack may be her biggest obstacle yet. Oh, and then there’s his half-sister. Being immortal really makes Betsy want to be something else.

Davidson brings the undead very much to life in his Undead series (ironic, I know) and it just makes me want to fast forward the days so I can already get my own copy. Betsy is warm, funny and down-to-earth that keeps you coming back for more of her Many of us love Betsy in previous installments because of her growth as a person—and also as a vampire queen. We have all read how he struggled with his humanity and his immortality; Now, we’re bound to see more of how it shapes her as Betsy and Queen of the Vampires. Who ever said that being dead was easy? Of course, not Betsy.

Undead and Unwelcome aren’t just your average vampire stories where everything is dark and goth-looking; It actually resembles the real world more than anything else. It is quite rare for a writer to manage such a feat. Also, the good thing about Davidson’s Undead series is that even if she focuses on Betsy, she makes sure her supporting characters are just as interesting and fun as her main character. It’s a very difficult task to accomplish but Davidson pulls it off effortlessly. Come June, I’m sure Mary Janes Davidson’s book Undead and Unwelcome will be one of the most sought-after books—not only for her fans, but also for those who need a fresh, vampiric look at their lives.
