The Search For a Soulmate – The Reality and the Illusion

Marriage is one of the oldest institutions created by man. An old saying goes, “Marriage is made in heaven and consummated on earthIt is widely believed that God creates human beings in pairs from the same soul and each has a soulmate on this earth. True love is finding your soul mate in this world Thus for each person, there is a unique soul mate And it is the destiny of a person to search for his soul mate.

The concept of soul mate is quite romantic and attractive because every person who falls in love feels that he has found his soul mate. Lovers believe that they are made for each other or that they are two bodies and one soul.

Thus people often refer to love as an act of union of souls.

Yet not all love can lead to union of souls because only souls of souls can unite. This concept is best explained in the book “Brida“By the world famous writer Paulo Coelho in the following words

And when people think about reincarnation, they always face a very difficult question: if, in the beginning, there were very few people on earth and now there are many, then where did all these new souls come from?

The answer is simple.

In certain reincarnations, we are divided into two. …our soul splits into two, and those new souls in turn transform into two, and so, in a few generations, we are spread over a large part of the world…and that process of finding ourselves is called love. Because when a soul splits, it always splits into one male part and a female part.

This is how the book of Genesis explains it: Adam’s soul was divided into two parts and Eve was born from him.

in every life, We feel a mysterious compulsion to find at least one of those soul mates. The greater love that separates them feels satisfied in the love that brings them back together.

It is because of this that everyone seems to be looking after that special person in their life who is the soul mate.

identity of the soul

The soulmate concept is so popular in the world that it is found in virtually every civilization. The most difficult problem, however, seems to be the identification of soul mates.

Feeling in love is the most popular method of finding a soul mate. When a man and woman fall in love, their souls seem to merge and they behave like two bodies and one soul. Paulo Coelho wrote in the book Brida

You can tell your soul mate by the light in their eyes, and people have recognized their true love since time began. Moon traditions used a different process: a type of vision that showed a point of light above your soulmate’s left shoulder.

People try very hard to find their soul mate through love. Yet most people fall in love too quickly. That is why love is often called blind. Ambrose Bierce called love madness,

Love is a temporary insanity cured by marriage.”.

The fact is that most people who find the deepest love in their sweethearts rarely last their lifetime which is evident from the rising divorce rate in the modern world.

Divorce rate increases

Most people face disappointment in their love because they soon discover that the person they love is not their soul mate. This has led to an increase in divorce rates, especially in the Western world. According to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri, “50% of first marriages in America, 67% of second marriages, and 74% of third marriages end in divorce..

Although the statistics tell part of the story because most people have now become so doubtful about the success of their marriage that they choose to live for years and even have children before marriage. Only when they are absolutely sure that they are in love, do they decide to get married. Yet statistics reveal marriages soon end in divorce.

Does this mean most people are unable to find their soul mate?

Or does it mean that there is something wrong with our concept of soul mates.

We also ask ourselves if soul mates really exist or are they merely an illusion created by our ancestors to ensure that people do not divorce believing their marriages are made in heaven. So once you are married, in many traditions it becomes a sin to divorce your spouse. Because most people are afraid of sinning, marriages survived in the past.

However, after the man begins to choose their beloved in love, they soon find that love does not exist without romantic novels or spiritual literature.

What does the scriptures say about marriage?

Marriage is one of the secret institutions of humanity. In India, Hindu weddings are still celebrated using mantras from the “Rigveda”, humanity’s oldest scripture, composed more than three thousand years before the birth of Christ. In Hindu scriptures, marriage is considered inviolable in this life and lasts up to seven lives beyond the present life.

The institution of marriage in India has stood the test of time. Even in modern times, when the western world is struggling to reduce the divorce rate, India has a divorce rate much lower than 1%, despite having similar provisions for divorce in laws as in the western world.

One of the most interesting facts about Indian marriages is that almost 90% of marriages are “arranged” by the parents of the boy and the girl rather than out of love. Most of the time, the boys didn’t see the girl. Even if they see each other, they rarely get to know each other as they meet for a very short time in the presence of their parents and other family members. Yet almost all marriages survive and most couples experience love in their lives.

Concept of love and marriage

To understand the design of love, one must refer to the Bible that deals with the concept of love and marriage in the first chapter of Genesis (21-24).

So Lord God made the man fall into a deep sleep While he slept, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed the place with meat. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, brought her out of the man, and brought her to the man. The man said,

“It’s bone of my bones now

and flesh of my flesh;

She will be called ‘Woman’

for he was taken out of men.”

For this reason a man will leave his parents and join his wife and they will become one flesh.

Thus nature has divided the human species into male and female. In Indian scriptures God is also called Universal Spirit (the absolute) because He is the source of all the individual souls of man. Therefore, the same soul resides in every person which is the soul of God because no soul has a separate and independent existence.

The Illusion of Soulmate

So it may be futile to search for a soul that is specifically meant for the individual because all souls are the same. Their difference is that male and female souls complement each other just as proton and electron particles are equal and opposite to each other.

The connection between the different souls is only through the world spirit or God which connects each individual as a thread makes a garland with a flower.

So the secret of love lies in the love of God. Once a person loses faith in God, there is no way to maintain a relationship with any other soul. This is why trust has emerged as the most important factor in sustaining love and marriage. It is well said “The family that prays together stays together”.

There is no God, there is no love

It is said that love is God or God is love because love and God are two names for the same reality. The love that most people fall in is also real because God created the attraction between man and woman to realize their spiritual destiny. Only through the union of bodies is a new life created. Similarly love is born due to union of souls.

Like any living thing, love is born and grows by itself. In the beginning, love may be physical but gradually it develops into a state of mind and soul to realize the ultimate destiny of union with God.

This is why all love based on physical attraction ceases unless the husband-wife relationship evolves from the physical level to the mind and soul level. The union of the body must turn into the union of the mind which means the lovers will soon become friends. Friends have little or no physical component. When the soul meets between the lovers, the friendship gradually becomes spiritual. The union of souls must then become a spiritual union with God.

However, people fail to accept the changing nature of love as some people cannot adjust with the growth of their children. They identify love with physical attraction and experience the loss of physical desire as a loss of love.

This leads to a search for a new soul mate and the search continues until they reach their end when they finally realize that there is no soul mate.

However, those who have faith transcend the stages of body, mind, soul and spirit (God) to gradually transform into spiritual beings along with their soulmates.

The True Soulmate

The concept of soul mate is for real. Yet there is no individuality in soul mates because all humans have the same soul which is part of God. Therefore, most people can find their soul mate and love if they believe in God. The only way to be in love is to have faith and accept love in all its forms like lust, friendship and spirituality because the ultimate destiny of every soul is to become one with God. Physical love is just the beginning of the journey. A soul mate is someone who not only helps you achieve your destiny but also journeys together towards the realization of this density.
